SUMMARY:Animal Rebellion Joins HS2
DESCRIPTION:Directly following the Rebellion\, we will be leaving to join HS2. We will be departing from London on 10th September and returning to London on 13th.\nWhy should Animal Rebellion care about HS2?\nHS2 is putting profit over the lives of human and non-human animals alike. Our futures are at risk as we face the climate\, ecological and animal emergencies and HS2 is only adding to the issues. No matter where you are in the UK\, this project is directly harming us all.\nEveryday\, HS2 is tearing down irreplaceable ancient woodlands for an unnecessary train line. HS2 is\, and will continue to damage the very ecosystems that provide so much to human and non-humans animals in the UK.\nFor over 3 years\, dedicated individuals have been on the front lines\, living on HS2 camps to protect the UK’s ancient woodlands\, rivers\, and all the wildlife who inhabit them. These forests that are being destroyed play an essential role in keeping the UK’s ecological processes functioning. We cannot survive without them. As HS2 continues to tear down these woodland areas\, England’s wildlife and nature reserves are disappearing at an alarming rate. This project is also contributing over one million tonnes to CO2 emissions further contributing to climate and ecological breakdown. This project is\, and will continue to destroy all that nature has spent thousands of years building while claiming the lives of many species along the way.\n“Among the sites that could be directly damaged or indirectly affected are a national nature reserve\, 10 county wildlife trust reserves\, about 50 ancient woods\, 30 river corridors\, 24 Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs\, the highest level of protection) and hundreds of other wildlife habitats. Among the rare or scarce species at risk are the small blue butterfly\, long-eared owl\, stag beetle\, great crested newt\, purple hairstreak butterfly and Bechstein’s bat.”\nCome and join Animal Rebellion at HS2 sites from September 10th to 13th as we reject the destruction of our natural world and unite for all life. We will not continue to stand by while the government allows the annihilation of all the woodlands we have left. They need to put the future of the people\, the animals and the environment over profit.\nWhat do you need to know? We will be leaving 10th September and staying until 13th. This will be a time to take a stand for our countryside and the wildlife being killed\, and it will also be time to regenerate\, to connect with nature\, with each other and slow down after the rebellion.\nWe will be organizing transportation if we can get 40+ people to join so make sure to select GOING on this event if you plan on joining us and we’ll be in contact to coordinate transportation.

During the action we repair\, remake and refashion items of clothing that “business as usual” would discard.\nREPAIR – REWEAR – REBEL!\n\n*𝐖𝐇𝐀𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐁𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐆** (𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬)\n• An old T-shirt that you want to upcycle into something new (to make into T-shirt yarn)\n• Or an item of clothing that needs repair (jumper or jeans with rips/holes/stains)\n• Crochet hooks or knitting needles\n• Scissors\n• Tennis balls (or similar item) – for learning to darn holes\n• Needles\, threads\, embroidery threads or yarn\n• Don’t forget your face covering and hand sanitiser!\n\n**𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐊𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐏 𝐈𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐒** (𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬)\n• Visible mending (e.g. sashiko\, darning with colour)\n• Easy crochet or knitting projects with -T-shirt yarn\n• Embroidery embellishment/personalisation of garments\n•Easy hand-sew alterations (e.g. rehemming trousers)\n\n**𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐘**\n• The fashion industry currently produces around 10% of all humanity’s carbon emissions\, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. 𝑤𝑤𝑤.𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑚𝑎𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑡ℎ𝑢𝑟𝑓𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛.𝑜𝑟𝑔\n• If the fashion industry continues on its current trajectory its emissions are predicted to increase by around 50% by 2030\, despite the current levels of CO2 in our environment already exceeding what is considered a safe limit by scientists. 𝑤𝑤𝑤.𝑒𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑚𝑎𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑡ℎ𝑢𝑟𝑓𝑜𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛.𝑜𝑟𝑔\n• It is one of the largest consumers of the world’s water supply\, pollutes the oceans with chemicals and micro-plastics and poses a serious threat to biodiversity through land use and habitat loss. According to the latest Living Planet Index the earth has already witnessed a 60% decline in biodiversity in the last 40 years. 𝑤𝑤𝑤.𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑑𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒.𝑜𝑟𝑔/𝑝𝑎𝑔𝑒𝑠/𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑛𝑔-𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑛𝑒𝑡-𝑟𝑒𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡-2018\nHumanity simply cannot afford to continue down this destructive path. The fashion industry urgently needs to clean up its act. In fact\, it is not uncommon to find workers in the same factory producing both designer garments and their high street imitations. Most luxury brands simply do not publish sufficient information about their environmental policies or provide any evidence of a commitment to ensuring that their workforce receives a living wage or safe working conditions.\nWe believe that fashion at all levels should take responsibility for ensuring that the supply chain is free from human\, animal and planetary exploitation.\n\n𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐁𝐔𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐁𝐔𝐋𝐋𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐓\n\nFashion giants have introduced more ‘eco-friendly’ textiles like organic cotton and circulose into their latest collections. However this strategy of misrepresentation\, dubbed as ‘green-washing’\, presents its own set of problems.\nConsumers are being encouraged to believe that such garments are free from environmental exploitation and ‘guilt-free’. In reality\, any clothing produced on such a mass scale can never be truly sustainable. Action Wellbeing is an essential part of creating a regenerative action. It promotes the wellbeing of ourselves and others\, strengthening connection and resilience.  \nThe training will explore some techniques including active listening\, grounding and self soothing exercises\, roles within Action Wellbeing\, and what it might look like on the ground. You will also be sent a beautiful Action Wellbeing Handbook and you are welcome to get in touch with your trainer at any point if you want to discuss any further aspects of Action Wellbeing.
