SUMMARY:Race/Class & Our Food Systems
DESCRIPTION:We will be exploring how issues of race and class interact and influence our food systems.\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout this Event\n\n\nThe first in the series\, we will be examining the link between the Indian Farmers Strike and how global south resistance is connected to animal agriculture. \nThere is a clear linkage between race\, class\, and animal oppression. One of Animal Rebellion’s demands is to achieve a “just and sustainable plant-based food system” – and the many layers of oppression unfold themselves within the intersectionalities. Equally\, land and food justice are vital to be understood as they connect to our indigenous heritage and spiritual cultures. Ultimately\, animal agriculture is currently produced in an exploitative system that is also perpetuating racism\, classism\, and other forms of oppression. \n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/raceclass-our-food-systems-tickets-151469614695

SUMMARY:2021 Plant-Based Schools Campaign
DESCRIPTION:Join us in our 2021 campaign: Plant-Based Schools and Councils!\n\nWe’re kickstarting a nationwide effort to create a fairer and more sustainable food system for the planet\, for animals and for our future.\n\nCome along to find out how to get involved as we demand that local councils stop serving animal products in their schools and council events to combat the climate crisis.\n\nWe’ve just got our first win with Hackney Council committing to 1 vegetarian day across 100+ schools and approx. 30\,000 students starting September\, for a total of 1.1 million meals per year changed.\n\nThe campaign is developing strongly across the UK with nearly 40 groups running it across the country. That’s 10% of the UK’s councils in just 4 months of running this campaign\, so we’re doing pretty well!\n\nSign up for our talk today to find out how you can be part of this incredible journey:\nhttps://actionnetwork.org/events/plant-based-councils-campaign-introduction-talk-5You can also register your interest to get updates on the campaign: \n\n\nhttps://actionnetwork.org/forms/local-council-campaign-to-improve-school-food

SUMMARY:Book Club Session 1: Five Essays for Freedom: A political primer for animal advocates
DESCRIPTION:Registration link: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJAucu-pqD4jG9HVpurAA8qcHS5VYlSp7ACc \nYou are encouraged to pre-read the materials prior to the session but this is not a requisite to join. The more important thing is turning up and join the conversation. Prior to each session you will receive an email with a short list of key points from the reading to allow everyone to engage with discussions. \nIn this session we will discuss the essay: Unravelling the animal industrial complex \nYou can get the ebook here [https://www.revolutionaries.com.au/ebooks/p/feff] and paperback here [https://www.revolutionaries.com.au/books/p/five-essays-for-freedom]\nIf cost is a barrier for you\, please get in touch with us at bookclub@animalrebellion.org \nAbout the book \nFive Essays for Freedom: A political primer for animal advocates \nAnimal liberationist and emerging avant-garde theorist\, Kristy Alger\, provides a scathing\, provocative exposé of the animal industrial complex in Five Essays for Freedom. Contextualised in current-day Australia\, this essay collection is a political primer for the animal advocate\, both curious and experienced alike.\nAlger writes that an understanding of the politics of animal exploitation is critical for the realisation of animal liberation. For if animal advocates do not understand the politics of animal exploitation they cannot hope to disrupt the webs of corporations and government that guarantee its continuation\, to the detriment of other animals\, humankind and the Earth.\nAlger asserts that the animal rights movement must extend its scope beyond the promotion of apolitical vegan consumerism as a means to create that accessibility\, for the realisation of justice. In doing so\, animal advocates can begin pulling at the intersecting threads of the animal industrial complex\, progressing towards a future where they themselves are freed from the web alongside the other animals they seek to advocate for.\nThis collection of essays is just the beginning in a new revolution that extends beyond veganism and challenges the very notion of what it means to be an animal advocate and a human being. \nFirst session: May 29 6-8pm UK Time\nSecond session: June 19 6-8pm UK Time https://www.facebook.com/events/217065169866410\nThird session July 24 6-8pm UK Time https://www.facebook.com/events/164781025562792/
