From November-December Animal Rebellion ran a 4 week messaging workshop which assessed and analysed our messaging and identified pathways for the future. In this presentation from the Animal Rebellion messaging team we'll go over what we learnt, some key insights and areas for future development as well as plans for Animal Rebellions messaging team in 2021. In a world with loads of competing narratives, messaging is everywhere. Social change organisations, corporations, the media and many other institutions use strategic messaging by considering things like context and framing in order to win people over. By formulating our words and the sentences we use, our messaging will travel further, hit harder and ultimately win the hearts and minds of the people - shifting the public narrative for a better world, and a brighter future.

Have you formed a new Animal Rebellion group or are interested in developing one? This training will go through the basics of how to plan your groups strategy and make sure its aligning with our goals and direction. We'll run through understanding Animal Rebellion's goals and strategy and how your group can find their place within that as well as starting out with setting goals and bringing people on board in roles and teams.

Come and join our sharing space where we will be discussing our past experience with doing outreach. Learn from your peers some tips and tricks they use for getting our message across in an effective manner. We will be sharing our experiences and compiling a list of common scenarios we encounter on the streets to then practice them in a low-stress environment and build up our confidence. No outreach experience necessary! All are welcome to come, discuss and learn.

Join Jo and Adam, both linguists from the Messaging team, to learn more about how we can utilise findings from linguistic research to improve the effectiveness and outreach of our messaging. In this presentation we'll walk through recent research into framing and communication in the environmental justice movement and how we can use it to supercharge our communications this year and beyond

In 2021 Animal Rebellion is entering into an exciting new phase with campaigns popping up left, right and centre. However, it can sometimes seem a little daunting to start a campaign in your area if its not something you've done before. This training will go over the basics of how to plan and implement a successful campaign. It will touch on campaign theory as well as going into examples of effective campaigns and how they won. This training is great for those working on the plant-based councils campaign or for anyone who wants to start to see real change in their area towards a better world.

Part of what makes Animal Rebellion amazing is the wonderful and diverse people who volunteer and by being a spokesperson, you represent this, our message and our values. We want you to be able to share your voice, so if you’re new to Animal Rebellion or you’ve been with us for a while, this training will be available for you to practice your speaking skills whether that is through speech or interviews. It only gets easier with practice!

A short introduction covering the underlying strategy and practice of liaising with the police within the context of nonviolent civil disobedience at protest actions. If you are interested in getting involved in police liaison for your site or group in upcoming actions, this introduction will cover the basic dos and don't , hows and whys of what has evolved into a strategic part of the rebellion. It will be a basic workshop lasting around 90 minutes.Ideally participants should have NVDA training, Know Your Rights training and some action experience.

Learn the basics of De-escalation rooted in Nonviolent Communication. How might you de-escalate a tense situation with someone who disagrees with you but is in dialogue with you? How might you de-escalate with very angry or drunk people in protest situations? How might you authentically express your motivation for being involved in Animal Rebellion? Come and learn and expand into empathic connection with those who might disagree or want to disrupt you. This session is an Intro to NVC De-escalation skills, for use during Animal Rebellion actions and for use in other social change movements utilising NVDA to support these movements to cultivate a stronger culture of nonviolence. This is a 2 hour online training which is intended as an introduction to Action Wellbeing support at Actions which we recommend attending if you are interested in taking on a Wellbeing role at actions. Action Wellbeing is an essential part of creating a regenerative action. It promotes the wellbeing of ourselves and others, strengthening connection and resilience. The training will explore some techniques including active listening, grounding and self soothing exercises, roles within Action Wellbeing, and what it might look like on the ground. You will also be sent a beautiful Action Wellbeing Handbook and you are welcome to get in touch with your trainer at any point if you want to discuss any further aspects of Action Wellbeing.[…]

"Non-violent Direct Action is what Animal Rebellion is all about. In this two-hour long, interactive training you will learn how to design an effective action. We will go through the basic principles of great non-violent direct actions. You will have space to discuss good and bad action design examples and will be designing your own actions during group exercises. Every part of Animal Rebellion needs to become a laboratory for disobedience and action design. If every person in every local group puts their mind to designing actions, imagine the possibilities!
